Figure 1. Criticism (tiny buddha, 2017)
Critics and reviewers have existed for a long time. They are essential for creators. They play the role of pointing out and correcting the creators giving them a different perspective about their beloved creation (“Week 11: Critics, Reviewers, and Journalists – Self-Directed Practitioners – Medium”, 2015). We have a lot of people in life who judge our work. They are essentially critics in actions.
Being a creator, showcasing one’s work is very difficult as it opens up opportunities for criticism. Now criticism can come two ways. Constructive criticism and destructive criticism and both have very significant effect on your work. The discussion in class became more interesting when one of my classmates revealed my status as a youtube creator. This was actually very good as I was able to answer a lot of questions from the lecturer and be more involved in the classroom interactions where I was very silent before. It was very interesting to share my experience being criticized on youtube to the whole class.
Figure 2. The criticism sandwich (Stanley, 2015)
One of the questions kicked me into reflecting my time on youtube as a creator when the lecturer asked me why I don’t consider myself a professional not in the sense that I make money from it. That question made me self-criticise my own work and yield a better outcome.
Therefore, I would like to conclude that criticism in both its form exists in the world in many areas of work. As I have learned from my time as a youtube video creator and the discussion about it in the CIU class, People will judge and criticize as long as they hold the freedom of speech. Most of them may not be worthy to do so but still, take the good and build on it. Ignore the bad. It’s not worth your time.

Great Explanation about Constructive criticism and destructive criticism, it became more clear to me the difference between the two and as you added your experience as a YouTube creator it was even clearer.

Very glad I got to read this. I keep mixing between the two types of criticism and reviews. I also respect how you reflected that on yourself as a creator.
